“Courage (мужество) : Great Russian word, fit for the songs of our children’s children, pure on their tongues, and free.” — Anna Akhmova

I currently work as a consultant on multilingualism and data theory, as well as provide translation and interpretation services, with a strong emphasis on operational security. An American immigrant, living in Seattle, WA: at the speedily evolving intersections of text and tech, applying my knowledge of cultural linguistics and coding to help integrate multilingual applications with social media localisation. Those of us who spent our adolescence sequestered in basements with home computers learned quite a few tricks, I can assure you.

One of my hobbies is translating Russian memes — the most esoteric genre of memery on the internet. I speak/read/write Japanese, Welsh, and Russian: certification in the former was required to receive my doctoral degree in comparative literature; the middle being a lifelong passion for the Celtic languages; and the latter a result of intensive course study as required by my new career. I quit academia; but at least I pick up languages very quickly, and it’s a skill I have offered in duty to my adopted nation. I campaign for the survival and endurance of the Welsh language. And I write my novels yn Gymraeg.

I’m a handgun owner with a Washington State concealed carry permit.

I prayed we would never get to this stage — but here we are — NEVER AGAIN IS NOW:

The rise of fascism in the United States. And when a modernist tells you she sees fascism, believe her.

The first wave of invasion was through disinformation. And the far right has mobilised under the cover of panic and confusion. We must resist. Resist! This is not a drill. We all must fight against the insurrection of tyranny as demonstrably shown by tRUmp, his greedy enablers and violent followers in the sustaining of this ethnonationalist regime.

There is no more need for hypothetical assertions as to what we would have done in Berlin, 1932. We are in that moment once more. I will use my words, they will not stop me.

In a previous life — university lecturer: with specialities in gender, culture, and the philosophy of language.  Education as situating ‘the feminine’ — linguistically, symbolically, psychologically, socially, etc — is a quintessential motif of my academic work, fictional novels, and personal aesthetic. The humanities are in a dire state — and coming out as trans whilst eking out life on a sessional’s income revealed more liberal hypocrisy in academia than my soul could possibly bear. True, I got out of the kitchen — but it wasn’t the heat that I could not stand; it was the smell.

Likewise, I stopped blogging regularly around 2016, when I put aoifeschatology to rest around the same time as tRUmp seized an illegitimate presidency. While I publish the occasional essay, in Areo magazine as an example, for the most part I limit all of my writing activity (limited as it is) to book manuscripts. Aside from the Welsh-language novel mentioned about, I am working on a project about sexual politics, transgender medicine, and Catholic doctrine, currently entitled The Theology of the Marginal Body. You can read a bit more here about my frustration on this issue here, involving an encounter with a professor of morality and at the Catholic University of America.

I no longer submit work to university presses and so forth, being an “independent scholar” as such. However, I am very proud of my first book, Ancestral Recall: The Celtic Revival and Japanese Modernism, which was published by McGill-Queen’s University Press (2016).

If you like, you can read more about Ancestral Recall here.

And for a CV-esque list of previous peer-reviewed scholarship, the main stuff is compiled here.

Another thing about me: I am a passionate campaigner for animals. As in card carrying member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

PETA is fantastic. I don’t give a flying feck if you don’t like us. I’m a proud monthly supporter, and I will continue to be so. We win victories. We get shit done; we save  lives; we bring about society-wide changes for justice against cruelty through our dedication. Hell-yeah I ❤ PETA!!! Likewise, volunteering as an animal rescuer and advocating for animal liberation are deeply held commitments of mine.

Miss Gwenllian Lâs is the pseudonym for my fiction. Dw i’n caru’r iaith Gymraeg a llenyddiaeth Gymreig/Gymraeg. Dw i’n awdures Gymraeg/Gymraes.

How to pronounce Gwenllian

Hefyd, dw i’n ysgrifennu nofel gwïar am ddod allan am y tro cyntaf fel menyw drawsrywiol drwy bŵer y Gymraeg fel ail-iaith.

Minority language rights remain at the forefront of my political activism.

Come for the folklore; stay for the abuse. Would name you my favorite authors but they’d be embarrassed if this page turned up in one of their google #namesearches. Apologies for the typos: I’ve lost most of my eyesight, but I get by on my Sybill Trelawney-like vibe. Her and Moaning Myrtle are my favorite Harry Potter characters. You can find me on dark twitter if you know where to look.

I am a member of Plaid Cymru,
