Ellis Humphrey Evans (Hedd Wyn). 13.01.1887 – 31.07.1917

Hedd Wyn, the poet who became a symbol of the lost generation of Welsh youth slaughtered recklessly in WWI, was killed at the battle of Pilkem Ridge #onthisday 1917.

A final draft of the ode ‘Yr Arwr’ (The Hero), in the hand of Hedd Wyn, which won him the chair at the Birkenhead Eisteddfod (NLW MS 4628C). The original is part of the National Eisteddfod collection also held here at @NLWales.

Drafft terfynol o’r awdl ‘Yr Arwr’, yn llaw Hedd Wyn, a enillodd iddo gadair Eisteddfod Penbedw (NLW MS 4628C). Mae’r fersiwn gwreiddiol ohoni yng nghasgliad yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yma yn @LLGCymru.
