Some Friday folklore, Welsh style, from my friend Louvain Rees (@hellohistoria)

* Christenings never take place on Fridays in Wales. The old people say: “The child that is christened on Friday will grow up to be a rogue.”

* It was considered unlucky to bathe children in the sea or a river on Friday. It was believed that the fairies controlled and disturbed the waters of springs, rivers, lakes, and the sea on Friday.

* Children with rickets were put to crawl under blackberry brambles three times a week.

Sometimes an archway was made of blackberry brambles, so that both ends were in the earth, and the child was taught to crawl through it three Fridays in succession.
